Deborah Ligorio, Bird's Eye View, solo show, Bürofriedrich, Berlin, DE, curated by Luca Cerizza

Exhibition period: 21.01 - 25.02.2006

Büro Friedrich is pleased to present Bird's Eye View, Deborah Ligorio’s solo show.

For several years Deborah Ligorio (Brindisi, Italy; 1972) has been conducting in-depth and coherent research on the possibilities and forms of human habitat. Her work, a constant investigation of issues like architecture, urbanism, production, and communication, questions the present and future possibilities of the human environment and analyzes the complex links between economical and social developments. In particular, her research focuses on the issues

of eco-sustainability and the influence that technological development has on natural and social environments. Her investigation on the forms of the urban, natural and media landscapes, often by means of maps, testifies to this interest.

Although her practice consists of careful scientific research and dialogue with experts of different fields, her work doesn't follow a straight documentary approach. Ligorio is, in fact, able to overlap and combine the scientific research with a light, personal, even intimate attitude, creating unexpected and often poetic short-circuits. In Deborah Ligorio's work macro (sociological) and micro (personal) forms of analysis both play a part in the construction of multi-layered and dense artworks.

At Büro Friedrich, Ligorio presents a selection of works from the last few years (2002-2005).

Despite this time-span and the use of different formal languages, the works are coherent in terms of content.

Irregular Configuration (2005) is a recent video installation consisting of a double projection that combines live shooting and graphical images. As in many other works, images are accompanied and related to the artist's voice over, which gives a more personal, direct tone to them.

Bird's Eye View(2004) is an installation that occupies the open spaces of BF and it is made of 15 wooden boards on which collages are mounted. The collages are created by the combination of material from different sources in a vital yet elegant cut-up. SizeScape (2003) and Hyperdevelopment(2002) are two earlier works in form of short digital video animations. They are more abstract examples of Ligorio's attention for the same subjects and of her capacity to carry urgent issues in synthetic and dense forms.
