Saas-Fee Summer Institute of Art, 2017, Berlin, Art and the Politics of Collectivity, Spike Art Quarterly, Wednesday, 19 July, 11:00 am — Deborah Ligorio

In this class, we will experience a SomaTheory exercise and conceptualise a mobile app centred on care.

Care as an ecological strategy, as a form of maintenance, and as an antidote to programmed obsolescence. Care for oneself and others through a politics of vulnerability. Care as an affirmative practice and a tool for empowerment.

The class will be divided into two parts:

A SomaTheory Encounter: A collective and participatory experiment in embodying theoretical configurations through breathing and body-awareness techniques.

A Collective Thinking Exercise: A case study for a mobile app on care. We will explore and sketch solutions for an open-source, participatory, community-based and privacy-aware application, with a focus on our sense of collectivity.

[The Eponym] (2014-21), an interdisciplinary practice exploring the relationships between bodies, technology, ecology, and systems of care. Through artistic research, workshops, collective practices, and speculative approaches, the practice creates spaces for experimenting with alternative ways of sensing, thinking, and relating to the world.
